The Government may be changing how they invest into community sports. This is an attempt to get more of the population active and healthy. The Government are now focusing on encouraging everyone from age 5 through to pensioners to get involved in sports. This will have numerous benefits on their health and wellbeing. Investment will be put into different sports projects and activities to try to provide a better quality of life.
This action maybe as a result of a study carried out by the British Heart Foundation National Centre for Physical Activity and Health. The study shows that regular exercise or physical activity can prevent people from developing illnesses like cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
“Physical inactivity is known to be the fourth leading cause of global mortality.”
The BHFNC believe that illnesses such like the ones mentioned, could be prevented if people were to become more active.
The study also found that participation in sports can lead to a reduction in mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. Also included in the report from the BHFNC are many benefits that physical activity can have on the mental health of everyone specific to their age.
Not only does being physically inactive cause health issues, it also carries a financial burden for the cost of healthcare. In the years 2006 and 2007, £900 million was spent on health issues related to physical inactivity. Therefore being active has more benefits than you may first think about.
There are numerous Government Grants available for schools, activity centres, community groups and local authorities. This has created an opportunity to start getting people more active. This is in ways that has many benefits for both the mind and the body.
